2nd International Conference of the International Society for Child Indicators
The theme for the ISCI Conference 2009 program is ‘Counting Children In! Child Indicators: Research, Theory, Policy and Practice’.
Abstracts are invited under the following topics:
- Theoretical, conceptual and empirical issues in the development of child indicators
- Measurement issues at levels of individual, family, community and globally
- What is measured or counted?
- Who decides what is measured or counted (perspectives of all stakeholders including children and young people)?
- How are indicators being used (potential uses and abuses)
- Diversity as a challenge to construction and implementation of indicators (taking account of age, gender, ability, culture, geography and socio economic status).
The Children as Experts in their Own Lives Symposium
The theme for the Children as Experts in their Own Lives Symposium program is 'Child Inclusive Research’.
Abstracts are invited which focus on issues, methods and/or examples of:
- Research with children and young people
- Research by children and young people.
Presentation format
Oral presentations for the ISCI Conference 2009 will be approximately 20 minutes each, with time for some discussion.
Oral presentations for the SJSC (UWS) Symposium will be approximately 20 minutes each, with time for some discussion.
Abstracts for poster presentations may be submitted as an alternative to oral presentations. Posters accepted will be placed on walls for viewing and discussed during breaks for lunch, morning and afternoon tea.
Abstracts will be assessed by the Conference and Symposium Program Committee. Acceptance of papers for inclusion in the conference and symposium program is subject to the quality of the submission, relevance to the theme and time availability within the program.
Notification
Acknowledgment of your abstract submission will be emailed to you within 2 days of receipt.
You will receive notification no later than 31 July 2009 on the status of your abstract. This notification will include advice on allocated sessions and instructions for oral and poster requirements.
PLEASE NOTE
• Regrettably no fees can be paid to presenters and presenters MUST register for the Symposium and/or the conference.
Instructions
- Only abstracts submitted in English will be reviewed.
- Abstracts are to be submitted in the text box provided in the abstract submission form.
- Abstracts must be no less than 200 words and no more than 300 words in size 10 Arial font, left aligned and single line spacing.
- Abstracts containing text, tables and diagrams must fit within the text box. Do not insert photographs.
- Abstracts must be submitted by Friday 19 June 2009 for consideration by the Scientific Program Committee. Authors will be notified of the results by Friday 31 July 2009.
Publication of Conference Papers
Participants presenting papers at the conference will be invited to publish their papers (contingent on peer review) in the Child Indicators Research Journal (CIR), a Springer publishing house journal and the official journal of ISCI (see www.springer.com/12187 for details). It is anticipated that 3 special issues of CIR will be dedicated to papers from the conference, as well as a special edited book in the ' Children Wellbeing: Research and Indicators ' _ Springer and ISCI newly launched series.'
